I graduated as a doctor in 2016. I spent the last six years of my healthcare career in organ donation and transplantation, in different parts of the country: identifying potential donors and taking care of every clinical and logistical detail of a process where there is no room for carelessness. That experience taught me to listen, to explain clearly and to leave no loose ends when something so valuable is at stake.
The profession was a blessing, but it came at a high cost: a lot of time away from home. That weighed on me, especially with a young son. I needed a change that would use what I already knew and bring me closer to my family.
What we went through as a family
When I went independent in 2023, the company I had worked for stopped paying for our health insurance. Finding decent coverage without paying a fortune became a maze. I talked to several agents and came out more confused than when I started. It felt like there was more interest in the commission than in our situation. Nobody explained to us that what you pay, and what the plan covers, depends on your income and your tax return.
We were a young family with no health problems, and we still paid more than $800 a month on the private market for over a year, convinced there was no better option. When we went to the doctor, we often ended up paying for the visit out of pocket.
Why I do this
During those years I asked for direction. I loved my career; I loved my family more. The answer took time, but it was clear: to become a health and life insurance agent.
My training as a physician, what we lived through as a family, what I know about the system and my years in healthcare in the United States allow me to help other families avoid going through the same thing: to choose their coverage with information, without pressure, and with the rigor you expect from a health professional.
